Often times we hear of the stories of people who did not survive breast cancer. However, there are a lot of celebrities who have survived it. Detecting breast cancer in time is vital. All of these celebrities used different treatments to survive.

10. Melissa Etheridge

Back in October 2004, Melissa Etheridge found out that she had breast cancer. She is now cancer free. She feels a couple of reasons as to why she survived it was because of her attitude towards it and because she also had a lot of family and friends who supported her and didn’t treat her as if she was contagious and just so happened to be there for her during her time of illness. A couple of songs she’s famous for includes “Come to My Window” & “I’m the Only One”.

9. Cynthia Nixon

Cynthia Nixon is known for her role in Sex and The City as Miranda Hobbes. She was first scared to come out and say that she had breast cancer. The reason why she was so nervous was due to the fact she did not want the paparazzi being there at the hospital when she was having surgery. However, her mother had also survived breast cancer and felt that her story could be an inspiration to help other women who have had it and that’s why she decided to come out and let everyone know about it. She was only 40 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer.

8. Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow came out in October of 2006 and told the world that she had breast cancer. When she found out that she had it, there was a tour coming up and she postponed it right away. She went into the surgery and had chemo for seven weeks. She was also supplemented with herbal teas and acupuncture. Crow is now cancer free but still watches her diet and is very careful with her health.

7. Richard Roundtree

I believe that it’s important to include men who had breast cancer and survived it. Richard Roundtree is an actor and best known for the role of John Shaft in the film called Shaft. He also made an appearance in the film George of the jungle. Back in 1993 he was diagnosed with male breast cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy and mastectomy. He is now breast cancer free.

Suzanne Somers is not only an actress but she’s also an author, businesswoman and singer. She was in both Step by Step and also in Three’s Company. Later on she wrote a lot of best selling self help books such as Ageless: The Naked Truth about Bioidentical Hormones. She did do some alternative cancer treatments that ended up receiving some criticism but she is now breast cancer free.

5. Kylie Minogue

Kylie was only 36 years of age when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was at first misdiagnosed and the famous Australian pop star almost lost her life without a chance to fight breast cancer at first. She thought she was defeated because of the first round of treatments not working but decided to go for another round and that was when the doctors discovered the lump. She immediately had chemotherapy, radiation and a partial mastectomy. After all that happened she said that women should follow their gut because sometimes doctors might not always be right.

4. Maeve Kinkead

Maeve is best known for the role she had on the soap opera Guiding Light as Vanessa Chamberlain. She did her role according to the contract that was provided. Her character was extremely popular. When the cast celebrated 70 years, she was included in their cast picture. She survived it.

Elaine stated that when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer that it shook her world. However, she fought it and now looks at life in a different way. Jaclyn Smith was famous in the 70’s and a known model. She was also in the TV series Charlies Angels as one of the private investigators. In 2002 she was diagnosed with breast cancer and everything got put to a stop as she had to fight for her life. She had lumpectomy plus radiation and survived. She became active with a lot of support groups and talks publicly about her battle.

1. Christina Applegate

Just like Kylie Minogue, Christina Applegate was only 36 years old when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. In order to reduce the chances of breast cancer coming back after she had survived it she decided to have a mastectomy. Later on she founded the nonprofit organization Right Action to help with aiding women who might be at high risk of having breast cancer. She has made appearances in a variety of films such as Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, Farce of the Penguins and also started in Up All Night, a NBC comedy.

It doesn’t matter how young or old you might be, detecting breast cancer in time is important for your chance of survival. You might not even have breast cancer in your family and still could get it. Don’t delay getting a mammogram done. As you can see, people around 36 and even younger have actually survived breast cancer. Men, don’t forget to also get checked out.
