If you are a gaming fan, and more importantly a fan of first person shooters, 2012 is a great year to own a console. Shooter games are coming thick and fast this year and between now and December 31st, there is plenty of time for you to indulge in some covert operations, bounty hunting action, and just plain monster-blasting action. Here is our list of the top 10 best first person shooter games in 2012 – 2013.

10) Resistance: Burning Skies

The Resistance series has been very popular on PlayStation, and this year sees the release of the latest instalment, Burning Skies, a game that is made specifically for PlayStation Vita. The new Vita platform and the dual-analogue aiming controls make this game perfect for the Vita, and there is a new hero for us all to enjoy – a firefighter by the name of Tom Riley.
9) Far Cry 3

The original Far Cry game took the console world by storm back in 2004 with its hellish violence set against a backdrop of beautiful exotic palm trees and luxury resorts. The great news is… Far Cry 3 brings us more of the same! You will take up the role of Jason Brody, an average guy on an island full of crazed bad guys. Jason has lost his girlfriend on the island (as you do) and must survive long enough to find her.
8) Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

Set for release on multiple platforms, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is the next release of the Half-Life spin-off series. Fans of the other CS games are sure to love this release and will be more than happy with the vast range of new weapons and game modes. Another great game to add to the Valve collection.
7) Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

At number seven in the list of the top 10 best first person shooter games in 2012 is the sequel to Sniper: Ghost Warrior and hopes to take the series to the next level. The job of the sniper involves taking out targets from long distances and is one for the FPS fans that love a high level of skill in their games.
6) Brother in Arms: Furious 4

Where original Brother in Arms game was all about the telling of accurate troop tales from World War II, Furious 4 is all about fun. Gone is the serious tone and realistic battle scenes, and in comes four new faces – Chok, Crockett, Stitch and Montana – all insane men determined to blast anything that is put in front of them.
5) Borderlands 2

Gearbox Interactive are well-known for producing first-class shooter games and the next off the conveyor belt is the highly anticipated sequel to 2009’s Borderlands. The monster/alien shooter, Borderlands 2 is set a further five years in the future and involves taking down a new bad guy, Handsome Jack. You will need to blast your way through numerous levels, learning new skills and gathering experience as you go.
4) Transformers: Fall of Cybertron

There won’t be too many people that aren’t familiar with the Autobots and the Decepticons; however, how many of you have heard about the Dinobots? Transformers: Fall of Cybertron brings us into contact with a robot T-Rex and various other Dinosaurs that is sure to appeal to all fans of the 80s cartoon and the newer movie genre.
3) Medal of Honour Warfighter

One of the longest running and most popular shooter game series’ of all time, Medal of Honour is back for another instalment this year and the name MoH name alone commands a high placing on the list of the top 10 best first person shooter games in 2012. Following on from the well-received 2010 instalment, Medal of Honour Warfighter puts you back in charge of the Tier 1 operators on various different missions around the globe. Familiar characters Preacher and Voodoo are back for more gun fight action.
2) Halo 4

One of the most highly-anticipated games of 2012 is the latest release in the Halo series, Halo 4. Halo is the original king of first person shooter games and Microsoft are going all out to make this one of the best games ever. Halo 4 is the start of a new trilogy from the series and is set to bring us even more sci-fi alien blasting fun.
1) Call of Duty: Black Ops II

Quite simply the greatest series of games ever released on any genre, Call of Duty had to top the list of the top 10 best first person shooter games in 2012. Black Ops II is set to go head-to-head in the sales chart with Halo 4 and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top. CoD: BO II takes place partly in the past and partly in the year 2025, which means a host of new weapons and vehicles to enjoy.
